St. Peter’s Church Stained Glass Restoration

Queenstown, MD

Project Story

Washington Art Glass Studio completed the restoration of multiple historic stained glass windows at St. Peter’s Church in Queenstown, Maryland, including three large round-top windows, two monumental circular windows, and four smaller windows surrounding the church’s front entrance.

Each window was carefully documented and removed before being transported to our studio for a complete restoration. The original stained glass was cleaned, dismantled and re-leaded using lead profiles and reinforcing methods consistent with the church’s previously restored windows. Cracked and damaged glass was repaired whenever possible, with replacement glass carefully selected to match the original color, texture and artwork.

Following restoration, the windows were returned to the church and reinstalled in the restored wood frames. New laminated exterior protective glazing replaced the aged Plexiglas, providing improved protection while allowing the beauty and craftsmanship of the historic stained glass to remain clearly visible.

The completed project preserves these significant windows for continued use and appreciation by the St. Peter’s congregation for generations to come.
